Good assessments Yarek. I was forgetting about the new CBR600F

As everybody should, it's dire. Soichiro Honda once said "Engineering is nothing without soul". He must be spinning in his grave faster than the crankshaft on Stoner's RCV when he sees his name on that thing. And £7300?  :008: No wonder they need to offer zero percent finance, lol...

As for "Honda build quality", that's a myth these days. They're not built anything like they used to be (compare an original Blade to a current one). Honda have gone backwards (blame the accountants) while the other Jap firms have improved. Take a look at the CBR600 properly - it's built down to a price (but then has a ridiculous price tag added afterwards). These days Yamaha probably have the best build quality of the Jap firms.

Quick question, is the fusion white st a creamy colour or is it like the crystal white. Or is there a third white?

Can't tell you anything about insurance for new riders, but congratulations on the new bike. :031:

I was the same - learnt on an ER-5n (battered tatty old thing it was too).  I honestly believe that either bike you'd be well happy with and that zero percent finance is a tempter.  If I was to list the pros of the two bikes against each other, they'd be:

Street Triple

  • Handling
  • Engine capability
  • Moddability - if you're into that sort of thing, been around longer so more options etc
  • Instant rideability/control
  • Performance - even the hardcore supersports riders I know want a shot
  • Great residual price - while second hand is expensive, you'll lose less money if you don't like it
  • No fairing - bad for motorways but no unfeasibly expensive plastic to brake if you drop it in the car park
  • Engine sound - especially with the arrows

CBR600F

  • ABS brakes - I was attracted to this safety option as a new rider
  • Faired - great for motorways and very long journeys, a downside for everything else
  • Honda build quality - although this hasn't been proven on this model yet
  • Good first step if you're on your way to a supersports

As I say, I don't think you make a bad choice either way, but that's how I was balancing out my own argument - I did change my mind every two weeks though and it was actually while taking my wife to the Honda dealer to show her the 600F that we saw the Street I bought, lol  :001:

A comment on the advantages of fairings :

Having just got rid of a Deauville for an STR, and previously owned an er6-f, I would say that fairings are overrated for touring. The only part of the plastics that made a lot of difference to comfort was the huge screen on the Deauville. The side plastics probably were protecting my legs etc, but now Im on the STR, im not noticing any wind buffeting problems on my legs. The side plastics were more of a hindrance, they are costly to replace if you drop it and they are a pain to remove to tinker.

I thought I wanted all the fairings, but after trying both, I dont see them as enough of an advantage to put up with them.

As for the screen, sure, the STR is a lot more buffeting at motorway speeds, but that just keeps me to a sensible speed (most of the time  :038:). If you want to go silly for a bit, then you can head down, bum up, and the optional screen on STR is enough.
