Speed Triple R
« on: February 18, 2012, 12:37:36 PM »
Initial report from a test ride on a damp morning with rain on the way.

Already modded with arrows lowboy.............you get that crackling popping when closing the throttle but ots not that noisey generally. R&G tail tidy, needed as rear pegs removed also.
So apart from ohlins front and rear, and some carbon, what else has changed. I am not sure as I have not read any reports, but discussed a new clutch and gearbox and a lot lighter. Maybe some TC systems to go with the ABS.

Sitting on the bike its a very nice fit for me, still low and flat footed and sit in rather than on. The ride was good and maybe a little firm over the ruts, but plenty of positive feed back. Very light and easy to handle, there is a difference in the R model, easy to ride like the street. Did not have the need to chase the revs like the std speed, so maybe some gear ratio changes?

All in all I was impressed and did like it.

Good pics Red, looks good in the white, with just a little red here and there.
Think it's got lighter, forged wheels too, if I remember correctly.

Yes, wheels are lighter and also gearbox modified to give an improved change.

Test rode a standard Speed last year and gearchange was very poor compared to the Street.

That looks very nice with some nice parts on it . Shame Triumph rushed the street R out instead of doing it properly like this with decent worth while upgraded parts .

I don't think Triumph could fit the same parts to the Street R as it would cost another £2000 and would have a much smaller (if any) market.

Forged by Fuchs, machined by PVM (and a whole lot sexier than the ugly standard ones, lol).

Just what I was going to say. Part of the reason for the Street's runaway sales success was that it used to be cheap. They sell less of them now it aint cheap anymore, nobody would pay the £9200 it would cost if it had the same spec as the Speed R.

It doesn't have TC (and doesn't need it), the ABS is an option. It's only 2kg lighter than the standard model, and the standard bikes are getting the revised gearbox too.

I think you'd be in a very small minority.

I like the look of it except the red around the wheels and the mirrors. Like the swingarm, wheels and hugger, but could have made the heel guards in black also. The Arrow LB is much nicer on the street. This one is fugly IMO!  :004:
Oh, and they should only sell it in phantom black. Any other colour would just ruin it. you know I'm right.  :007:
