Very unimpressed with 2nd hand Ducatis
« on: February 19, 2012, 10:55:24 PM »
Today my ride out included a stop at Manchester Ducati. Very nice shop with very friendly staff and a good cup of hot chocolate. The new bikes were gorgeous and looked good enough to eat.

My lad's been creaming his shorts thinking about a Ducati Monster so I had a close look at their 2nd hand bikes.

The bikes I looked at were between 2001 and 2008 and I was really surprised at how poorly the finish had worn. The mirrors and levers on most looked awful. My old 125 that was used all winter long looked 10 times better.

No way will I now buy a Ducati unless i win the Euromillions and then I'll only be able to use it for summer jaunts.

I looked at the monster 696 before I bought my Striple, bit of a girls bike  :005:

Funny you said that, because my wife is considering it as a starter bike....
If you gain respect, you probably earned it. If you demand respect, it might as well be burned.

Funny you should say that, but a lady that I know has a 696.

I dunno if she'd make the cut for "girl" at near enough 70 years old, but <shrug>

I have ridden her bike a few times, and it is actually quite a nice thing, and, on roads that suit, i.e. twisties,it's seriously quick, but, in Oz, it is bloody hot to ride in traffic in summer.

I dunno how things work over in the UK, but here, a 675 Striple is, basically, a girlie bike..... right up until folk try to keep up round a twisty road or track.     :002:

You people are funny, 696 and ST's girls bikes?
They probably didn't look so good, as there's no room to keep them inside ur caves?

No offence meant  :430: It's just that the Ducati seemed very small, suited more for a lady, or jockey  :008:
My mate has a Ducati 999 and he can't keep up in the twisties and is always complaining about the heat from the engine, especially in the summer when riding in town. Oh and wrist ache, back ache, knee ache........ :008:

Aye, but as any self respecting Ducati rider knows,

You have to sacrifice comfort for style!    :002:

I came to street triple ownership from owning a Ducati Sport Classic. Great bike but after 4 years it needed a lot of money spent on it to refurbish it back to where it should have been. As great as the bike was, the running costs were far too much for me to justify. So now I have a faster, better but less good looking bike.

If you had even the most cursory passing acquaintance with style, you wouldn't be buying a pig ugly 999, lol...
