Brake caliper / piston maintenance
« on: February 17, 2017, 09:09:13 AM »
I cleaned my brake calipers before christmas but there was still some road gunk stuck to the pistons and now I've replaced the pads which meant pushing the pistons back. I was wondering if I remove the pistons to clean them up (and possibly split the calipers too) do I need to replace the seals?

I would say that it would depend on the condition of the seals when you inspect them, however, if your going as far as splitting the calipers then it may be wise to replace the seals as you go.

Agreed, if you splitting the calipers it would be easy enough to change the seals.

If you split the calipers, then there is a seal in between the two halves. You should really replace that too.
