Noise limit at Castle Coombe
on: July 23, 2016, 07:24:39 PM
Hi, I'm thinking of doing a Track Day at Castle Coombe. I'm worried that on their site they warn that Triumph 675's of 2009 with shot pipes do not pass the noise test. I have a standard 2013 Street Triple R. Does anyone have experience of the noise tests at Castle Coombe. Is it a good place to do a track day? Thanks

I know they are very strict. Brands is only 30mins from me and they have just lowered some of their noise restrictions from 105db to 102db. Could be a problem as my bike totally standard is 103db according to the manufacturer website. The local residents and council are slowly going to kill it off.
Probably get a few thousand houses in a brands.

My 2014 STR with standard pipe gave 96dB at Bedford Autodrome last year.  They are pretty strict there too, 101dB static test and 87.5dB flyby but I never had any problems.

Yeah makes me laugh (not) how people buy a house next to an aerodrome or race track, then start bleating about the noise - it was there when they bought the house FFS! Council would probably love to build a few thousand homes there - but no shops, pubs or schools. Then the Nimbys will be whinging again. ...

You could take a blast up there and get your bike tested before committing yourself. Website suggests they're happy to do so.

I've mot beenthere myself though plan to soon as it's not far from me. However, I have 2010 R with standard exhaust so comparison will not help you....

I know this is old, but in case it comes up on Google - I had a track day at Castle Combe last year and I have a 2010 Striple R with dual under seat arrows - baffles IN.
You drive through a little arch to a guy who measures it.

It passed fine and they stuck on an annoyingly hard to remove sticker to show to the marshals before entry.

You can definitely just turn up and get them to test your bike without being on a track day. They checked mine with decat exhaust, high level cans and slightly modified baffles and it just passed.
