This might seem a daft question but what's the point?

Bigger surface area.  Never parked on grass?  10mm sinkage might make all the difference...

Or it might not . . I'd rather carry a decent sized puck in my pocket and be sure, but each to their own.

Is a puck not a faff to drop into the right place?  Also, how deep is a hockey puck?  Does that not make the bike too upright and therefore less stable?  My homemade foot only extends the kickstand's length by about 4mm.

Not really tbh, and its hard plastic so about the same thickness. Got a couple free at the bike show a few years ago. I've only parked off road a couple of times in 10 yrs so not an issue, but if I was doing it regularly then yours would be ideal.

When I have parked on grass I just looked for something to use - sadly there's so much s*** left lying around these days it's not hard! If there really is nothing to use then you can put a glove folded in half under the foot and that works.

As a shortass I love my kickstand foot. It's an eBay job from Germany. It has "Street Triple" etched into it (I have a weakness for bling).
It holds the bike a tiny bit more upright, but not too much. I've had the same make on both Streets and the Daytona and never had one drop off or come loose. I'm often parked on grass and I'm an all weather/all year round rider. I've never had one sink in at all
I have ankles that dislocate with very little provocation but having the plate on makes it easy for me to find it with a toe without a single dislocation in 8 years.
I tried a puck, as like everyone else I have several freebies lying around, but for several reasons I struggle to get the stand on and off the things and didn't like pulling up the muddy bit of plastic on a curly string and having to stow it somewhere once I'm perched on tiptoes, ready to set off.
I know lots of people never have a problem with a puck but for me, that sidestand foot makes my life so much easier and I never have to think about carrying anything extra.
Your home made one looks just the job. If I didn't already have one I'd be in the queue to buy one.

Extra large bolt on foot is a nice addition, good on very hot tarmac too ...like today  :028:
