Insurance + after market exhausts
on: October 26, 2020, 09:44:09 AM
Hi,

Does anyone declare the exhaust to your insurance company? This is something that stops me from getting one, not so bothered about the insurance wriggling out of paying for damage, more concerned about being stopped by the police and being done for no insurance coz its not been declared.

Is this a concern for others?

Hi as mentioned as long as its not adding performance (full system) shouldn't affect premium. I always declare had a friend lose out on a claim as not fully declared parts. As scorpion is not fitted as a factory extra I'd declare it. All they will say is in the event of a claim they will only replace it with  stock exhaust not ay aftermarket one. Even if they turn around and say they don't need to know at least you are covered. The only way they make money is to find ways not to pay out don't give them an easy whim!.

Ive got the SC Project on my Street. I informed my insurance company and as stated previously, if itís not performance enhancing it didnít effect my premium.
As for the increased decibels, SC issued a card stating that the exhaust is road legal. I keep this in my wallet just in case a jobsworth cop decides to pull me over.

New exhaust arrived this morning and have fitted it - sounds excellent.

Thanks for all the advice.

Confirm this for yourself, but I believe Bennetts have a long list of mods you can make but don't need to declare, and this includes aftermarket slip-ons  :028:
2015 Street Triple Rx.  SC Project Conic 'zorst. 7x5 plate. Supabrake-2.  #HideTheHorn
Triumph: Rear sets, LED indicators, anodised reservoirs, bar end mirrors, short levers.
Evotech: Tail tidy, Shark Fin, Rad Guard. Rear foot peg blanking plates.
MCT tuned suspension. Lithium battery
