Trackday tire dilema...
« on: August 19, 2016, 06:14:49 PM »
I'm at Cadwell tomorrow and the weather is looking mixed (sunshine and showers).

I've got brand new unscrubbed Pirreli Supercorsas on the bike.

There are no garages at Cadwell and I've got no portable generator so no tire warmers.

I'm a bit concerned about going out on a wet track on shiny new tyres. Should I risk it?

Has anyone any experience of these tires in the wet?
Anyone up for rides out round Rivington, Belmont, Blackburn, just give us a shout :-)

I used to do a lot of track days on a gsxr600 which was a track bike only so could never scrub in tyres on the road before they got used.
What I would do was wash off the slippery new rubber with hot soapy water and an old scrubbing brush and scouring pad, just to take the shine off.
This was on Metzler Racetecs.
The least you could do, would be to wash off the tyre soap the fitters use to seat the tyre.
Even better do some miles on the road before you go.
Have fun at Caldwell 👍
