Intercom recommendations for wife?
« on: July 22, 2018, 07:34:24 PM »
My wife has just got a 125 scooter, but is not very confident and I want to get her used to riding by 'following' her on my ST.

I have never bought or used an intercom system before, and don't really know what to look for. Any recommendations for a simple, comfortable and reliable system? We don't need massive range or fancy features, just an easy-to-use kit.

P.S. apologies if this is the wrong section

I have been in exactly the same situation with my wife on a 125.
We have a set of Interphone tours and have been really good connect very easily etc

The only issue I have is she is very loud and likes to talk a lot

I recommend the units with the M/F switches which you can operate with you gloves on...very handy  :028:

We use interphone F5MC. They work well. But there may well be better newer stuff.

I bought a cheapo Bluetooth bike intercom from eBay for about 35 per unit (me and a mate went halves on a twin pack) just as proof of concept, with the idea of upgrading to Interphone F5 if we liked them. They have line of sight range that's perfect for what you want without the expense. Previously we'd used PMR446 radios and Autocom sets but these thirty quid Chinese jobbers turned out to be better than expected for the money.

I've had mine installed for a couple of years. Eventually the plastic clip that holds it on to your lid broke. I bought a pack of clips separately on the bay for about a fiver. Eventually the amplifier went and it was really quiet, so I bought another one without the extra bits for 22. Happy days for the money, haven't been convinced that the expensive ones are worth the extra.

Thanks very much for your suggestions so far. I have looked at the Interphone site/reviews and they do seem very good, although the price is a bit more than we would like to pay. Maybe the Sport model would be better for us than the all-singing Tour??

Alternatively, getting a cheapo model off eBay just to see how we get on could be a solution, too :)

There are loads of sellers of these, this is just an example, but this is what we bought. Cheap and cheerful but they work alright for what you want.

I bought a single set of the cheap eBay one's to replace a Sena head set that I managed to break.
The difference between them is very minor in actual use.
