2012 engine swap uncertainty
« on: October 31, 2018, 03:38:56 PM »
I have a 2012 675 (model with new headlight shape) and seen an engine to fit 2007 to 2012. I'm wondering if there is a risk the engine isn't going to fit my model even though is says it would fit 2012? Did the engine change at all in that year?

Hopeful... :187:

I don't know for certain but I've always thought that the changes to the "Dame Edna" were largely cosmetic/styling, suspension and brakes but didn't have any fundamental changes to engine & chassis, etc.   As it had twin underseat exhausts I think it's likely that main and sub frames were the same so the engine should fit.  I've just seen one ride review that states that the " ... engine is unchanged ..."   Not sure about gearing, though, but that's not going to prevent installation.   You could always call your local main dealer or even phone Triumph  themselves?

I am sure that all Underseat exhaust Striples (whether round or Dame Edna headlights) have the same engine. The change came with the 2013 Model year that introduced the low level exhaust, this has a lower first gear.

If available the VIN from the donor bike would confirm it but I'm guessing thats not known (or is it) ??

The first Dame Edna version was ironically just a face lift. (I'd want a refund TBH.)

I don't have the VIN from the original bike. The more research I'm doing the more I'm seeing the changes were more cosmetic rather than in the actual engine.....just want to make absolutely sure, could do with an article that says for definite that no changes were made till the 2013 model. Must be one somewhere...... makes sense what you're all saying definitely

Only thing I'd look out for would be the exhaust header ports. I think earlier engines had round exhaust ports and later engines had oval ports so make sure you check this with your engine otherwise you might need a set of headers too if they don't match with yours.

I believe the only changes were:
  • Engine case.....the 2011 to 2012 ones had the Triumph logo on and were a slightly different shape but in essence the same
  • The Sept 2009 models had a harness with the quickshifter plug0

Other than that I believe it all the same so it will fit IMO  :031:
