Interesting.  :028:

But I'm just wondering how the "shut-down" would affect bikes with alarms? Or, looking at it from the other end, how the alarm would interpret the battery disconnecting itself?

I've got a JMT LTM9 36Wh on mine. I bought a Genius charger at the time but I've never needed to use it other than to test it. I don't ride very often and it has always been fine. I don't know about cold weather performance because my garage never gets colder than about 7įc. It only weighed about 800 grams from memory (2.1kgs lighter than the original lead acid one).

I've had an Aliant YLP09B.001 on my 675 for nearly 3 years now, it's been faultless, and I wouldn't know it wasn't a lead acid, other than from the impressive weight saving.

I pretty much lay my bike up for winter, with the occasional top up using a Lithium specific Optimate.

Highly recommended.

I think I might go with ELIIY POWER HY93 £85; these are used on the CBR1000RR SP Fireblade as standard. My logic is...if its good for Honda then its good for the Street Triple.

Has anyone used this battery before?

Thanks

I tried a Lucas Lithium battery from eBay. It was useless for cold starting! The overnight temperature was only 8 degrees C and the engine would just turn over and it wouldn't warm up.  If you put a charger on it for just a couple of minutes it would start ok.  The battery had a stated CCA of 210 but it wouldn't start in the mornings. I was sent a replacement and that was the same.  Now have my money back and I'm quite happy with a cheap lead acid battery that starts first time any morning!

FWIW, the Aliant YLP09B.001 on my bike is still going strong - bike always starts, though one thing I've noticed is that it _sometimes_ struggles to rev in the first 30 secs - which may be related to the battery warming up - but it's never been a problem and well worth the swap IMO.

I've used JMT and Shido lithium batteries and both struggle to start the bike when it's low single figure temps.

Great for track or summer, not so great for a daily
An alarm system will kill it off quite quick for example
Iíve got a jmt though and itís been great
