15/03/2015 So just to get this straight in my head.... When people say for vin numbers in between 323451 to 475303 for example are they actually asking for vin number or do they actually mean the six digit model number that's stamped on the frame just under the vin number or are they asking for the last six digits of the 17 digit vin number?

Found this on the Triumph RAT site. Any help?

The VIN number is also shown on the v5 for the bike. When specifying a vin range it's the last 6 numbers of the vin number not the other 6 digit number.

Hi Tricky, I was one of the 90 viewers of the original, but I had no info to add once Id seen whole post.
Beeladys post gives some idea that the other 6 digits are a model code.  You could ring a main dealer parts department and ask them the question and get the definitive answer.

I'll have a look at my bike next time I am home (in a fortnight) and confirm.

I know the exact date of manufacture so will be able to confirm.

It could also be something like the year, the week number and sequence number.

I've just taken a look at my headstock, and I see 301008.
Given that I have a very early Street Triple R, 1st registered in March 2009, I'd say that this number is the date of manufacture.
It's just speculation, but given Beelady's number, I'd put money on it.

when you ask the dealer just say 'VIN'- vehicle identification number, not VIN Number, vehicle identification number number. HeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHe,

I say this with love!!  :008:   :028:

Thanks to bucksfizz and beelady yes those are the numbers i was asking about and NOT the vin number like some people thought either they didnt read my question properly or i didnt make it clear enough.the ones on my bike are 040108 and as my bike was registered in April 2008 they probably do refer to the date of manufacture.

I admit, I had no idea until I looked into it. One of the good things about this forum is finding out more about my bike, so I learnt something too.

You'll soon get used to people who don't read properly. Most just read through quickly and sometimes miss the detail, but everyone means well. You'll also soon be able to spot the pedants, as well.  :002:
All good fun though and you'll usually find the info you want eventually.
